About The Birmingham Buzz
The Birmingham Buzz, or 'Bham Buzz' as it's come to be known, was created in 2001 as a webzine dedicated to supporting and creating a community among musicians, fans, and supporters in and around the Birmingham area. We set out to create an online medium in which bands and artists could discuss their trade, swap gigs, learn from one another, and much more.
The Buzz features locals' music, show photos, music-related articles, interviews, show and CD reviews, in addition to our most popular feature, the message board. The site is also a springboard to all the different bands, artists, and associated music websites, with a growing catalog of links.
The Buzz has grown over the years, with traffic to the site consistently growing larger and larger. We've always strived to keep the spotlight on the local musicians, and given them a forum in which they can promote themselves and keep the local music community up-to-date on their happenings.
The Buzz was founded by local musician Curt Granger. Curt created the original site design, and is the editor and co-webmaster, and has hosted the site since it's inception. In 2003 he turned the site over to Polly Meeks, who took over as editor until 2005. The staff has or does include the following: Mike Turner, Brandon Singletary, Matt Weber, Jonathan Kobler, Tim Taylor, Adam Smallwood, and Rex Dangerfield. Writers have included Frank Touchstone, Alan Meeks, George White, Mark Beem, and Clint Hall.
In 2006 the site underwent a major redesign, done by Mike Turner. We also have a presence on MySpace. We plan on expanding and improving our coverage of the local music scene and it's our intention and wishes to see it continue to grow and improve for all involved in it. Thank you for your support over the years!
